Active May Day in the Silesian Voivodeship

Planning an active May 2025 in the Silesian Voivodeship? This is an excellent idea! The region offers plenty of attractions for lovers of nature, sport and history. Here are some suggestions to consider.

Silesian Beskid - the ideal place for mountain hiking

The Silesian Beskid is one of the most popular destinations for active holidays during the May holidays. The region impresses with a variety of trails that lead through picturesque valleys, forest ridges and peaks with breathtaking views.

Start your hike from one of the popular villages:

  • Vistula - An ideal starting point with well-marked hiking and cycling trails. From here, you can go, for example, to Barania Górawhere the Vistula, Poland's longest river, has its source.
  • Ustroń - well-known for its spa climate, especially recommended for families. Worth getting Czantoria Wielkato which a hiking trail and a cable car lead. There is an observation tower and a forest rope park on the mountain.
  • Szczyrk - offers access to some of the most beautiful trails in the region, including on the Skrzyczne - the highest peak of the Silesian Beskid (1257 m). In summer, you can use the gondola railway and visit the PTTK mountain hostel.

Lovers of two wheels will not be disappointed either. There are many cycle routes in the Silesian Beskid - for beginners as well as for advanced riders.

  • W Szczyrk works Enduro Trails - a network of mountain biking trails created specifically for MTB enthusiasts.
  • In Wisła and Ustroń, on the other hand, you will find gentler recreational trails, ideal for family trips.

Whatever your age or physical condition, the Silesian Beskid offers something for everyone - from leisurely strolls through the valleys to ambitious ascents of mountain peaks. It is a place where you can truly breathe, relax and spend your May holidays actively, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Excursions with PTTK Katowice - discover the region with a guide

If you want to spend your time actively on May Day 2025 and at the same time get to know interesting places and their history, take a day trip organised by the Upper Silesian Branch of PTTK in Katowice. This is an ideal option for those who like to visit in an organised group, accompanied by professional guides and without having to plan the route themselves.

PTTK Katowice has prepared some unique proposals for this year's May Day:

1 May: Moszna - Glogowek

The tour begins with a visit to Mosznaknown for one of the most recognisable castles in Poland. The palace in Moszna impresses with its fairytale architecture - it has as many as 99 towers and 365 rooms! It is surrounded by a beautiful English-style park, ideal for walks and photos. A guided tour of the castle allows you to discover not only the architectural highlights, but also the rich history of the place, linked to the Tiele-Winckler family - the former owners of the estate.

The second point of the tour is Glogowek - a charming little town with a historic market square, the Oppersdorffs' Renaissance castle and the beautiful St. Bartholomew's Church. It is worth knowing that Głogówek has had its share of cultural history - Ludwig van Beethoven lived here for a while.

4 May: Olkusz - Ogrodzieniec

Another proposal of PTTK is a journey in the footsteps of history and nature on the Kraków-Częstochowa Foothills. The first stop will be Olkusz - a city with mining and metallurgical traditions. Among other things, there is the African Museum and an underground tourist route leading through the historic cellars of the town hall. The guide will talk about the town's glory days, its links with the royal silver mines and the activities of the Olkusz miners.

Participants will then set off to Ogrodzieniec, where one of the most beautiful Eagles' Nests is located - the castle on a limestone hill in Podzamcze. These are the ruins of a castle from the 14th century, which impresses with its location and the panorama stretching from the defensive walls. The tour includes the courtyard, dungeons and towers, with an added bonus of a walk in the "Góra Birów" nature reserve surrounding the castle.

Excursions organised by the PTTK are a way to spend an interesting day and an opportunity to get to know the slightly less obvious places of the region. Participants can count on:

  • supervision by experienced guides,
  • well-planned logistics,
  • integration with other travel enthusiasts,
  • the opportunity to ask questions and deepen their knowledge of the places visited.

It is ideal for everyone from seniors to families with children who are looking for a comfortable, safe and worthwhile holiday. With these trips, May Day can become a real adventure!
